Buying the wrong clipper blade is one of the most common (and frustrating) mistakes for both new and experienced professionals. Different clipper brands use different blade mounting systems, and not every blade fits every machine. This guide breaks down exactly which blades are compatible with which clippers — so you never order the wrong blade again.

The Universal A5 System
The A5 detachable blade system is the closest thing the clipper industry has to a universal standard. Originally developed by Oster, the A5 snap-on mechanism is now used by virtually all professional-grade clipper brands.
A5-compatible clippers include:
- Andis — AGC, AGR+, Excel, ProClip, UltraEdge series
- Oster — A5, A6, Golden A5, Turbo A5, PowerPro Ultra
- Wahl — KM2, KM5, KM10, KMSS, Bravura Lithium (with A5 adapter)
- Heiniger — Saphir, Xplorer, Opal
- Aesculap — Favorita II, GT104, GT474
- Liveryman — Harmony Plus, Arena, Classic
- Lister — Star, Legend, Liberty

A5 blades snap on and off with a simple lever or button mechanism. The blade rail (the groove on the bottom of the blade) is the same width and spacing across all compliant brands. Our SUMTHIN A5 detachable blades are manufactured to the exact industry-standard rail dimensions using MIM powder metallurgy and have been tested on all major clipper brands listed above. Brand-Specific Blade Systems
Not all clippers use the A5 system. Many consumer-grade and some professional clippers use proprietary blade systems that only accept blades from the same brand — or compatible aftermarket replacements.
Wahl Standard / Taper Blades
Wahl's standard taper blades (used on the Senior, Magic Clip, Cordless Legend, etc.) are a screw-on system specific to Wahl's consumer and professional clipper line. These are NOT interchangeable with A5 blades.
Our SUMTHIN hair clipper blade models are designed as direct replacements for Wahl's standard taper blade system: Model 103 (standard), Model 115 (professional), Model 208 (universal), and Model 212 (heavy-duty).
Andis T-Outliner / GTX Blades
Andis T-Outliners and GTX trimmers use a screw-mount blade system that's specific to these models. Our T-blade series — Model 125 T-Blade and Model 183 Wide T-Blade — are compatible replacements. We also make U-Blade trimmers for safer skin-contact fading.
Codos / AUX / KEMEI Pet Clippers
Many Chinese-brand pet clippers use a snap-on system that is physically different from A5. Our 128-series pet blades are specifically engineered for these clippers:

How to Identify Your Blade System
Not sure which system your clipper uses? Here's a quick identification method:
- Check your clipper manual — it should specify "A5 compatible," "detachable blade," or list compatible blade models.
- Look at the blade mount — A5 blades have two parallel rails on the bottom that snap into a spring-loaded hinge. Brand-specific blades typically use screws or a different latch mechanism.
- Measure the blade width — A5 blades are standardized at approximately 49mm (1.93") wide. If your blade is significantly narrower or wider, it's likely a proprietary system.

Blade Compatibility FAQ
Can I use Andis blades on a Wahl KM clipper?
Yes — both use the A5 system. Any A5-standard blade from any manufacturer will fit any A5-compatible clipper, regardless of brand.
Are SUMTHIN blades genuine or aftermarket?

Do aftermarket blades void my clipper warranty?
In most markets, using third-party replacement blades does not void the clipper manufacturer's warranty on the motor or body (this is protected under right-to-repair and antitrust regulations in the US and EU). However, blade damage from using incompatible blades would not be covered. Always verify compatibility before installing.
